I've been reading "A Little Pot of Oil...a Life Overflowing" By Jill Briscoe the past few weeks. As I prepare mentally, spiritually and emotionally for Haiti (March 18-23) I can't help but be inspired, renewed and changed after reading these words.
Preparing to Pour...
Sometimes it takes a crisis in our lives to test our faith, to show us the limits of our own strength and the sufficiency of God's provision. We don't learn that lesson if we just sit around and wait for God to take care of us. We have to step out and pour out, trusting that the Holy Spirit will fill us and give us what we need to continue.
So what is my job? My job is to be ready to be a blessing even when I could do with someone blessing me. It is to step beyond the limitations of my own compassion to share Christ's compassion with a world that is running on empty. It is to let God love others through me and to be ready for this always, on all days. My job is to pour my life into the lives of others even in situations where there will be no one watching, no one applauding, no thanks given, and no rewards received.
